Vooral filmhuisfilms genomineerd voor Oscars 2018

Nederlandse cameraman Hoyte van Hoytema genomineerd

De nominaties voor de 90e Academy Awards zijn vanmiddag bekend gemaakt, beter bekend als de Oscars. The Shape of Water is maar liefst 13 maal genomineerd, Dunkirk is 8 maal genomineerd en Darkest Hour kreeg vijf nominaties. Zondag 4 maart 2018 worden de Oscars uitgereikt.

De 90e Academy Awards 2018 zijn bedoeld om films die uitgebracht zijn in 2017 te eren de enige Nederlander die in de running is voor een Oscar dit maal is cameraman Hoyte van Hoytema voor zijn werk met Dunkirk.

De 13 nominaties voor The Shape of Water is één minder dan La La Land vorig jaar had, wat zeer opvallend is aangezien deze film — net als alle eerdere films van — Guillermo del Toro eerder in de categorie filmhuis valt. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Lady Bird; Blade Runner 2049 elk met 4 stuks zijn eigenlijk ook het best te omschrijven als filmhuisfilms. Opvallend is dat eveneens de met 4 Oscars genomineerde Get Out, samen met I, Tonya (3 maal) en Dunkirk (8) de publieksfilms zijn die in de belangrijke categorieën nog kans maken op een Oscar. De meeste publieksfilms, zoals "Star Wars: The Last Jedi ", hebben alleen Oscar-nominaties in technische categorieën.
